5/30/2023 0 Comments Luna by julie anne peters free pdf![]() ![]() She has a boy interested in her, and she wants desperately to date him, but in one way or another, Luna keeps inadvertently getting in the way. There is a great deal about Luna's need to be her true self but the story line is more focused on Regan, and how constantly worrying about her brother/sister is affecting her own life. What makes this book a little different than the bulk of transgender themed middle grade or teen books out there now (and there have been many of late) is that Luna is not the narrator or the protagonist. ![]() With the exception of her sister Regan, she is known by her given name, Liam, and is known as a boy. ![]() Mom is a self-centered almost prescription drug addict. Dad is a former jock, working for Home Depot. She lives with her younger sister, Regan, and her parents. She's a computer genius, managing to earn an evidently substantial income from doing computer work on the side. Luna is a transgender girl at the tail end of high school. ![]()

The very opening page situates this concept through the mechanism of feet. The problem is that the subject being taught to young readers is not really feet, but the concept of opposites. One cannot honestly accuse the book of not delivering on its title. The problem with this particular tome is certainly not that feet are not present in great abundance. Thidwick turns out to have a big heart and Bartholomew Cubbins does through exactly 500 hats. Horton cannot be accused of neither hatching eggs nor hearing Whos. The Grinch does at least attempt to steal Christmas and there is a certain Cat who definitely looks stylish in his chapeau. Seuss canon, The Foot Book may well be the most misleading. Neuhold![]() ![]() Overall, this narrative pair is still good and enjoyable to listen to, and much better than other narrators out there, but be forewarned of the above if you are a sensitive listener. It’s disconcerting at first but does fade away after a few chapters. The result is that you may find yourself forced into “unhearing” and “unlearning” Stone first, and then readjusting to his new voice. ![]() He is given a very deep “dumb as rocks” voice in Caulky, but in Nailed, his voice is completely different - much more upbeat, similar to Cole’s voice in Caulky. If you’ve read Caulky and then you immediately read Nailed, you may encounter an additional issue: a character “schism” in Stone due to two very different voices from one book to the other. ![]() It happens too often to be chalked up to inadvertent mistakes. Also noted in this book with the “weaker” narrator, a number of inexplicable mispronunciations. Nailed has the same two narrators as Caulky and while they are both more than competent - good diction, intonation, pacing - one narrator is definitely stronger than the other - richer tone, better emotional representation of the words on the page - which is something noted in Caulky but amplified in Nailed. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments The good neighbor by maxwell king![]() ![]() Sixty-five years later, Fred Rogers would say in a television interview: “Nothing can replace the influence of unconditional love in the life of a child. (*Be forewarned: spoilers for the book ahead*) (Obviously, for those of you who don't know, Season 1 of the show ends where the book does). Thought I would break down the most noteworthy differences between the book and the show here. If you haven't yet read the book but are considering it, I would definitely say go for it. I love the character dynamics, and Perrotta does a great job of giving us insight into each character's innermost thoughts. I just finished reading the book for the first time after having seen the show (twice), and personally I really enjoyed it. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments More Than Water by Renee Ericson![]() Learn more and download Libby or contact us to help you get started. ![]() They're available in print, eBook, or eAudiobook.īorrow eBooks and Audiobooks for free with Libby, the Digital Library app, available for Apple, Android, and Kindle.
